I live in a perpetual construction zone

Since Spring there has been some type of construction constantly going on outside of my apartment building. I say that and you are probably thinking I am exaggerating but I'm totally serious! There has been constant construction going on outside of my apartment since April.

The road in front of our apartments has been dug up and buried at least 10 times. It's almost a daily routine of digging up the street and filling it in just to do it again the next day. When they "fix" the road they fill it in with gravel and then put this cloth like carpet over it to keep all the gravel in place.

What about safety? WELL now that's a concept! I have actually walked under cranes and next to dump trucks that are having loads of broken concrete dumped into them. The construction zones are open to anyone who wants to walk by, no one stops you and they leave no space for people to get thorough so you have to take the dangerous path. And as for safety for the workers, well I saw some men today working on building a house with big floppy hats on, not hard hats.

Now it's spread from in front of my apartment to down the street and now even in the road leading to my school. I just ride my bike from construction site to construction site!!! Not to mention they get really close to the shoddy electrical system dangling above our heads :)

NICE!

Men work on this with out any kind of safety gear!

This is my favorite little mart right by our apartment. She is the sweetest lady and she HATES the construction as much as we do.

Here's my apartment building and the road in front of it that has been dug up so many times

Here is the carpeting they put down over the gravel

As for school, intensives are still going strong. Today they were actually good! But yesterday was a total struggle and I had my childrens classes again in the afternoon and I was tired from a long/fun weekend in Seoul. As I sat in my regular English Time class I noticed how easy they were to instruct, how they never spoke Korean with out asking permission and then one of my worst students - one that I usually have trouble with was sitting with his group working on a project and when they were finished he was doing pages in his workbook that he had not been assigned previously. It was one of those moments that made me proud. I was sitting with the most awesome class ever and they were doing everything right and even doing extra work! SOO proud of my students!
